President Donald Trump promised on Wednesday to send every adult American citizen a $5,000 “dividend” if Republicans keep control of both the Senate and House of Representatives in the midterms.

“If the Republicans win, you win with us and you get $5,000,” Trump told the crowd at the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas. “It will be called the Trump dividend.”

Trump has proposed other payouts to Americans in the past. During his efforts to cut government spending last year, Elon Musk suggested a “DOGE dividend” of $5,000. Trump said he loved the idea, but it never came to fruition.
