TULSA, Okla. — After 52 years of serving the community, the Muskogee Public Library could soon see major changes inside and outside the building through a $7 million fundraising campaign.
The library’s campaign would fund new spaces and programs while also addressing several needs within the aging building.
Branch Manager Jeremy Jones said plans include a small business resource center, outdoor learning and seating areas, a STEM space for children and more immersive learning opportunities.
“I really feel the library is here to serve the community,” Jones said.
The project would also create additional areas for people to meet, work or find a quiet place inside the library.
Daniel Swanson has worked at the library for nine years and said additional space would help meet demand from people who use the facility.
“It’ll help out a lot because we get a lot of people wanting to use our meeting rooms,” Swanson said.

Some of the money raised would also go toward basic improvements to the 52-year-old building, including work on the air conditioning, cracked tile, lighting and carpet.
The library’s fundraising goal is $7 million. Jones said about $3.6 million has already been raised, putting the campaign a little more than halfway toward its goal.
Library leaders planed to take the campaign further into the community as they seek donations to close the remaining gap.
“We want to be that space for everybody can come to work together to learn something from us or from each other,” Jones said.
