EXCLUSIVE: Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights and Voltage Pictures has picked up international rights to the Aaron Eckhart action thriller Butcher’s War.

Voltage Pictures will introduce the film to international buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film also stars Jason Behr (Roswell, The Grudge, Skinwalkers), Danielle Vasinova (1923, The Madison, The Leader) and Glenn Morshower (Transformers franchise, 24, The Little Things). Kyle Kauwika Harris (Out of Exile, The Huntsman, Reverence) directs from a screenplay by Don Roff, Harris and Dawn Bursteen.

Haunted by the loss of his team, former special operations commander Jedediah “Jed” Butcher (Eckhart) has retreated to a solitary life. When he is recruited for a covert mission to rescue a besieged foreign leader from rebel militias, Butcher is drawn back into a world he thought he had escaped, only to uncover a conspiracy driven by powerful interests seeking control of the country’s natural resources.

Pic is produced by Randy Wayne and Talia Bella (Cottonmouth, Resurrection Road), with Alan B. Bursteen (Hunting Season, Speed the Plow) and Dawn Bursteen (Invertigo, The Marshal) serving as executive producers. The film is a production of Rebellium Films and Milestone Studios.

“Aaron brings exactly the kind of strength and authenticity we wanted for Jed Butcher,” said Alan B. Bursteen, President of Milestone Studios. “At its core, Butcher’s War is about a man who has lost everything and is forced back into a fight he thought he had left behind. We’re thrilled to have Samuel Goldwyn Films and Voltage Pictures as partners in bringing the film to audiences around the world.”

“This is the action thriller audiences have been waiting for,” said Peter Goldwyn, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films. “Aaron Eckhart headlines a white-knuckle story from a vibrant young filmmaker with a vision all his own.”

“Butcher’s War is a compelling story of survival, betrayal and justice, anchored by a strong performance from Aaron Eckhart,” said Alexandra Cocean, President of Global Sales and Distribution at Voltage Pictures. “Those universal themes, combined with the film’s suspense and character-driven storytelling, give it an appeal we believe will resonate with audiences internationally.”

The acquisition deals were negotiated by Alan B. Bursteen, President of Milestone Studios, with Voltage Pictures CEO Nicolas Chartier for international rights and Samuel Goldwyn Films CEO Ben Feingold for North American rights.

Eckhart is repped by CAA, Behr is repped by Untitled, Vasinova is repped by Zero Gravity Management, and Morshower is repped by Alexander White Agency.
