The Kardashian curse appears to have struck again, with Kendall Jenner‘s boyfriend Jacob Elordi‘s latest film tanking at the box office.
Jacob is the lead actor in Ridley Scott’s latest blockbuster The Dog Stars – which has a reported budget of over $100million – but it has tanked both in Australia and internationally since its release on August 27.
It earned just $623,000 on its opening weekend in Australia, well behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s $3m and The Odyssey’s $2.24m.
Even more startling, its earnings are less than a tenth of the whopping $6m opening weekend Elordi’s previous movie, Wuthering Heights, had in Australia in February.
And its current worldwide earnings are just $45m, falling well short of the $333m that his movie co-starring Margot Robbie earned worldwide this year.
Meanwhile, the film has mostly been relegated to a few screenings a day at major cineams – or once a day at arthouse theatres – across Australia, meaning its odds of having a late comeback are diminishing.

The reversal of fortune has led to rumours that the ‘Kardashian curse’ has struck again, an internet meme which claims a famous person’s career will plummet upon getting romantically involved with a family member.
Elordi’s post-apocalyptic drama is not faring any better critically either, debuting on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of just 38 per cent, making it one of the worst-reviewed blockbusters of the year so far.
The Dog Stars, which is set after a devastating flu pandemic, follows a former pilot (played by Elordi) who flees his safe zone in search of a better life after hearing a mysterious radio transmission.
It also stars Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley and Allison Janney.
Reviews have been brutal, with The Daily Beast writing, ‘No amount of aesthetic splendor can compensate for the derivativeness of the director’s latest, stitched together from the decomposing parts of its genre ancestors.’
‘The Dog Stars is a strange, misbegotten beast, a post-apocalyptic drama worse for wear even before the bandits arrive,’ wrote The A.V. Club.
‘This wasteland narrative is the most tedious film of Ridley Scott’s career,’ sniped RogerEbert.com.

Elordi is coming off a string of back-to-back hits in recent years, including Frankenstein and Euphoria.
He also starred in the hits Wuthering Heights and Saltburn.
Elordi and his new girlfriend went public with their relationship in April when they were glimpsed passionately kissing at the afterparty for Bieber’s Coachella performance after being set up by Jenner’s younger sister Kylie.
In the intervening months, their romance saw them visiting Hawaii and Japan together, with the pair even going viral on TikTok for holding hands in Tokyo.
The couple also travelled to London for the premiere of The Dog Stars.
Sources claimed in April that the pair were ‘making out and all over each other’ while attending Bieber’s Coachella afterparty, via Deuxmoi.
An insider exclusively told the Daily Mail they had been dating ‘as far back as early February’ thanks to a spot of matchmaking from Kylie Jenner.
