Neon on Monday released the teaser trailer for Artificial, the Luca Guadagnino-directed movie that centers on Sam Altman and a key, tumultuous time at his company, Chat GTP creator OpenAI.
The footage reveals Andrew Garfield as Altman, who is seen walking through some sort of mansion/office. “We have created a machine that will solve the world’s problems,” he says in voice-over as he walks. He adds, “We opened Pandora’s Box together. The future is inevitable — countries will fall, industries are gonna collapse.”
He enters a futuristic-looking room lined with guns encased inside blue-tinted glass-covered walls and takes out his computer. “We get to be the ones who get to shepherd people in to this new world.”
Artificial will hit theaters Christmas Day, but not before Neon has it make stops at the New York and London film festivals. The distributor picked up the pic after Amazon decided to drop the film in June after it notably announced a $50 billion investment in OpenAI earlier in the year.
Written by SNL‘s Simon Rich, Artificial chronicles the days leading up to the sudden firing and reinstatement of Altman as OpenAI’s CEO as the fate of who gets to control the technology at the center of an AI arms race hangs in the balance.
In addition to Garfield, the cast includes Mark Rylance, Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Koch, Cooper Hoffman and Ike Barinholtz.
