Montana Brown has revealed she has been diagnosed with female pattern hair loss after losing huge clumps daily.
The Love Island star, 31, said she has had her confidence ‘knocked’ after bald patches began to emerge on the back and side of her head a few months ago.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Montana shared her story and photos of her hair looking visibly thinner as she wrote: ‘So I’ve been diagnosed with female pattern hair loss and Telogen Effluvium.
Female pattern hair loss, or androgenetic alopecia, causes a gradual thinning of hair across the top and crown of the scalp while usually keeping the front hairline intact.
Telogen effluvium, meanwhile, is a temporary form of hair loss characterised by overall thinning of the scalp, usually triggered by a severe physical or emotional stress.
She continued: ‘I’ve been having very extreme hair fall and shedding for a few months now but I was ignoring it because I assumed it would be post partum related.’

She added: ‘I have to say I left the appointment extremely shocked because I hadn’t expected that kind of diagnosis. I have been burying my head in the sand and just assuming things will get better.’
Montana said her iron levels are low after having two back-to-back pregnancies and that she used to be anaemic.
She added of how stress could have contributed to her hair loss: ‘Life has felt stressful over the last few months so it makes sense and especially when your sleep isn’t good quality.’
Montana said to improve her hair health she is avoiding having hot showers and using a cold rinse to close the hair follicle, using a silk pillowcase and bonnet and using a leave in conditioner after washing.
She captioned the post: ‘She’s balding and quickly, guys honestly this has upset me so much and knocked me. My hair has been falling out significantly for a few months and it’s definitely knocked my confidence.
