EXCLUSIVE: USA Network‘s The Rainmaker is kicking off promotions for Season 2 with first-look photos of Merle Dandridge and Richard Kind, both new additions to the legal drama. The show will return with new episodes in October.
Showrunner and executive producer Michael Seitzman teases what viewers can expect from Season 2 with corresponding images below.
Based on the John Grisham novel of the same name, The Rainmaker follows Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan) who, fresh out of law school, goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond (John Slattery) and his law school girlfriend Sarah Plankmore (Madison Iseman). Rudy, along with his boss Jocelyn “Bruiser” Stone (Lana Parrilla) and her disheveled paralegal, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.
In Season 2, the series follows Rudy, Deck (P.J. Byrne), and Bruiser as they face old adversaries and new ones in a case where the lives of hundreds of children hang in the balance, and where winning might be just as dangerous as losing.
In addition to Dandridge and Kind, Austin Nichols has been announced as joining the cast in Season 2.
Milo Callaghan as Rudy
“Season 1 ended with Rudy winning a massive case. Season 2 opens with the case in appeal and Rudy suddenly famous, receiving letters and phone calls from every lost cause in the state looking for a savior. One letter arrives from a kid in juvenile detention, and it’s the one thing in the pile nobody would blame him for ignoring. But Deck sees something in it, a mystery and a puzzle to solve. Moreover, he sees it as a way for Rudy to get back to being a fighter for the underdog. The season for Rudy is about reminding himself who he really is,” shared Seitzman

“Bruiser, Deck and Rudy are a family, which means they argue constantly and would each take a bullet for the other two. Bruiser is trying to keep the lights on while Rudy and Deck chase a case that may never pay a dime. Deck is going to take one more shot at the bar exam, and this time it matters more than it ever has. One of the joys of writing for these three characters is that nobody is ever entirely wrong. Every argument they have gets them one step closer to the answers they’re seeking. In this season in particular, each of them will become something different from what they were,” said Seitzman

Merle Dandridge as powerhouse attorney Amanda Vonn

“Amanda (Dandridge) is elegant, brilliant, and arguably the best and most ruthless attorney in the show. She is accustomed to being the smartest person in any room she enters, and her primary methodology is to set a trap for those she’s up against,” teased Seitzman.
He added, “With Sarah (Madison Iseman), whom she takes on as a protégée, theirs becomes the most complicated relationship of the season. Sarah has her own reasons for being there, reasons that change dramatically as the season progresses.”

Richard Kind as Larry and P.J. Byrne as Deck
“Richard Kind plays Deck’s father, Larry, a forensic accountant who has largely been out of Deck’s life. Larry thinks of himself as a puzzler, and this season presents him with a puzzle unlike anything he’s ever seen before, while also being one of the funniest characters in the show. He is also the most moving,” Seitzman concluded.
