Tropical Storm Edouard has officially made landfall in southwest Louisiana near Johnson Bayou. The storm is expected to bring 50 to 60 mph wind gusts and 8 to 10 inches of rainfall to some areas. FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross is live with the latest.

What’s left of Tropical Storm Edouard is drenching East Texas. The storms winds have decreased, so Edouard is now classified as a tropical depression. On the radar, you can see that it still has an impressive structure so it can produce extreme rainfall.
Over 20 inches of rain has been reported in some areas where Edouard’s leftover bands have stalled along and near the I-45 corridor north of Houston. Rain is falling at up to 5 inches per hour in some locations. Flash flooding is occurring.

Everyone in that area should stay aware of the latest flood alerts from the National Weather Service.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic, the record El Niño is powering a ribbon of extremely hostile upper winds that stretches across to Africa and the Saharan dust keeps coming, although increasingly there are breaks.

Disturbances moving off Africa don’t have a chance in the current atmospheric environment. So for now, even with the peak of hurricane season eight days away, there’s nothing to watch.

In the Pacific
Lowell and Karina will bracket Hawaii with Lowell to the south and west and Karina to the northeast. But no significant effects on the islands are expected.

Marie is forecast to reach hurricane strength as it arcs out to sea offshore of Mexico. The southern extent of an unusually strong early-season storm moving in on the Pacific Northwest looks likely to pull moisture out of Marie, however, and spread it over extreme Southern California and north in the Rockies beginning this weekend.
People in the affected areas should stay aware of the latest forecasts, especially if a hike or other outdoor activities are in the plans for Labor Day weekend.
