George and Amal Clooney made a glamorous arrival at the 83rd Venice Film Festival via water taxi on Tuesday as the glitzy annual event gets set to begin.
It is not just any old Venice Film Festival for George, 65, this year though, as he is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award – and Amal will be by his side to support him.
Last year he attended the festival to promote his film Jay Kelly in which he plays a movie star who travels to Italy for a lifetime achievement award.
And life will imitate art this year as he receives the Golden Lion accolade on Wednesday – the event’s opening day.
As they travelled through Venice’s waterways on the taxi, Amal, 48, showed off her sophisticated sense of style in khaki shorts and a matching blazer.
George was every inch the gentleman as he helped Amal disembark the water taxi by holding her hand.
Filmmaker George looked smart in white chinos and a navy T-shirt as he flashed a friendly wave.

It’s not a long journey to Venice for Amal and George – who own a 15-bedroom villa a few hours away on Lake Como.
The pair share nine-year-old fraternal twins Ella and Alexander.
In the nearly 30 years since he attended his first Venice Film Festival with the film Out of Sight, George has become something of a fixture at the event.
It’s a place where he’s enjoyed many significant moments, from his wedding to Amal at the Aman Venice to the debut of Good Night, and Good Luck – which earned him his first Oscar nomination for best director.
This year Venice Film Festival runs from September 2 to September 12.
The red carpets begin with the premiere of British director Danny Boyle’s Ink, a drama about the rise of media magnate Rupert Murdoch.
It closes on September 12 with Italian costume drama Dio ride (God Laughs), written and directed by Giovanni Veronesi.
Maggie Gyllenhaal will chair the jury for the main competition.
She will be joined by Tunisian director and screenwriter Kaouther Ben Hania, the English composer Daniel Blumberg, Italian critic Francesco Casetti, French director Xavier Giannoli, Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat and Hong Kong director Johnnie To.

Stars expected to attend this year include Noel and Liam Gallagher of Oasis, Rooney and Kate Mara, Robert Pattinson, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Pamela Anderson, Sam Rockwell, John Malkovich, Louis Garrel, Cho Yeo-jeong and Ellen Burstyn – who is also getting a lifetime achievement award.
Noel and Liam will be there for the promotion for their documentary film Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger which follows the Gallagher brothers during their 2025 reunion tour.
The festival comes after in late July, wildfires blazing across southern France forced George and Amal to flee their home.
The family live in Brignoles, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, which was threatened by fires spreading across France, Greece, Italy and Spain.
George revealed that he and his loved ones evacuated their home in a letter to the mayor of Brignoles, Didier Brémond, his representative confirmed to People at the time.
The actor reportedly vowed to support the town, which has a population just under 18,000 people, regardless of the impact of the encroaching fires.
‘Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,’ the Hollywood veteran began.
‘As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasize two things, first we hope you and the people of our city are safe and second that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole,’ he wrote.
‘We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.’
