A year after the loss of their Bernadette Bassenger, Priscilla is tuning up for another fabulous adventure across the Australian Outback.

Guy Pearce recently gave an update on the production timeline for the sequel to 1994’s The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, following co-star Terence Stamp’s death at age 87 last August.

“Well, the sequel, which is going to be—what are we now, ’26?” Pearce told Good Morning America. “We’ll probably shoot it ’27, it’ll come out ’28.”

Written and directed by Stephan Elliott, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert stars Hugo Weaving, Stamp and Pearce as Mitzi Del Bra, Bernadette Bassenger and Felicia Jollygoodfellow, three drag queens who take their act on the road across Australia in a giant bus named Priscilla.

In 2024, Deadline reported that a sequel was in the works with the original cast returning. “I’m not repeating myself, we’ll start the new film in Australia, but by God, we’re going on one helluva journey,” Elliott revealed. “The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, we’re still working out deals. … It’s happening.”

After Stamp’s family announced his death on Aug. 17, 2025, Elliott noted that he “decided to pre-shoot all the Bernadette scenes” as the actor “wasn’t getting any younger, and that’s a fact he loved to shove down our throats almost every day.”

“When the AI wars broke out, Terence was indignant that he didn’t want a digital clone of himself playing Bernadette,” explained Elliott. “He wanted the chance to put the character down himself. And I will quote him in this case. He said: ‘Just in case I don’t make the start line.’”
