TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas– A construction worker died when a home collapsed on top of him Thursday during strong winds and storms in Texas.
Travis County Emergency Services confirmed the death on Friday morning, saying that four workers were at a home under construction when winds between 50 and 70 mph caused the home to collapse.
The entire home collapsed.

Two of the workers were able to escape as the home was collapsing.

The entire two-story home collapsed, trapping two workers who couldn’t escape.
One of the workers was awake and breathing and trapped under some framework of the house.

The other worker sustained severe injuries and died.
A rescue operation by Travis County Emergency Services District 5 and the Austin Fire Department Special Operations team stabilized and lifted the house off of the individual who was pinned underneath it.
Wind reports on Thursday.
“The neighbor next to the house reported that the winds were so intense,” Travis County Emergency Services District 5 said. “The trees were blowing sideways, and then she heard a loud boom which was the house collapsing next to her.”
Wind reports in the region show gusts of 60 mph on Thursday afternoon during the storms.
