Former child star Alex D Linz captured hearts across America as tech-savvy eight-year-old Alex Pruitt in Home Alone 3 in 1997.

The beloved actor, who’s now 37, also played the son of Michelle Pfeiffer’s character in the 1996 film One Fine Day, before later quitting Hollywood to work for the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.

Decades after stepping away from acting, Linz looked unrecognizable during a rare sighting in Los Angeles on Monday.

Rocking a bushy beard and no shirt, the former actor was pictured doing outdoor chores near his home.

Linz carried a broom while wearing gardening gloves and mustard-colored cargo pants. He stayed comfortable in grey Crocs while sweeping the sidewalk and clearing away weeds.

Linz has also hit some major personal milestones since quitting Hollywood, as he confirmed to the Daily Mail that he is married and recently welcomed a baby.

During his recent sighting, the actor – whose hobbies include sailing, playing music, volunteering, being active in his union and gardening – braved the scorching Los Angeles heatwave and wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty as he pulled weeds along the sidewalk.

The Santa Barbara, California, native made his acting debut at the age of six in an episode of the TV show Cybill.

He went on to appear on the Young and the Restless in 1995.

His next big role came in 1996 when he starred in One Fine Day alongside Pfeiffer and George Clooney.

Linz garnered international stardom when he replaced Macaulay Culkin’s character for the third installment of the Home Alone franchise.

He starred alongside a young Scarlett Johansson in the film, directed by Raja Gosnell.

The movie followed young Alex as he defended his house from a dangerous group of international criminals while staying home from school with chicken pox.

The film received a lukewarm response from fans and critics and grossed $79.1 million, a far cry from the original’s $476.7 haul.

His sighting came just a day before the death of Home Alone 2 star Tim Curry. The legendary film and TV actor died at the age of 80 on Tuesday night, his manager confirmed on Wednesday.

A cause of death was not given, but Curry had been suffering with serious health issues for more than a decade after suffering a stroke in 2012, which left him unable to walk.

He was best known for playing Dr Frank-N-Furter in cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

His other iconic roles came in films such as Clue, Annie, Home Alone 2 and It.
