A 100-degree temperature was recorded at Miami International Airport on Tuesday, tying the record set on July 21, 1942, over 84 years ago.
MIAMI – The summer heat is making an unbearable return to the Southeast U.S., as millions of Americans continue to see record-setting temperatures this week.
An extreme heat event will slam most of the Southeast and Mid-South this week as an upper-level dome of high pressure dawns across the regions.
This setup will trap warm, humid air over the Southeast, pushing daytime temperatures into the upper 90s and low 100s with no relief in sight.
Heat index values could reach as high as 115 degrees in some areas, prompting heat alerts all week long.

In fact, Miami’s maximum temperature today reached 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Because of the scorching temperatures, most of the Southeast faces a 3/4 and 4/4 heat risk throughout the week.
In light of the dangerously hot weather, prediction markets at Kalshi are predicting a 95% chance that temperatures will drop as low as 82 degrees.
This comes as a Heat Advisory remains in effect into Tuesday evening.
“Over 40 million Americans face this extreme heat risk with over 70 million under heat alerts,” said the FOX Forecast Center.
