The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring two areas to watch for tropical development in the Eastern Pacific, which long-range forecasts indicate could move toward Hawaii over the next 10 days.

Both disturbances are being given low odds of development over the next seven days by the NHC.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, several forecast models, including Google’s DeepMind model and the European model, suggest Hawaii could be in the path of potential tropical activity roughly between August 14-17.
However, since no tropical cyclone has formed, there is still considerable forecast uncertainty, as models do not have an actual storm to track.

FOX Weather’s exclusive Tropical Threat analysis shows a moderate chance for tropical development into next week in the area southeast of Hawaii.
NOAA‘s Climate Prediction Center (NOAA) long range tropical hazard forecast is also highlighting this region, as well as areas south of Hawaii, for potential development.
Fausto passed well north of Hawaii as a tropical storm last week, but still brought dangerous surf to the northern shores of the islands.

The last hurricane to make landfall on Hawaii was Iniki in 1992.
Water temperatures have increased and are now running mostly above average across the Central and Eastern Pacific, as the El Niño climate pattern has strengthened, producing more favorable conditions for tropical development.
Seven named storms have formed in the Eastern Pacific this season, including Hurricane Genevieve, the first Category 5 storm in the basin since Hurricane Kristy in 2024.
The next named storm on the list is Hernan. The average date of the “H” storm in the East Pacific is August 21.
