HARE BAY, Newfoundland — Quint the shark is making big moves, becoming the northernmost white shark on the OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker in the western North Atlantic.

The 9-foot-8-inch subadult male white shark, weighing an estimated 587 pounds at the time of tagging, pinged inside Hare Bay off Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula on July 28.

This area has only been explored by one other OCEARCH-tagged shark, Dold.
“Quint’s journey highlights the incredible range of white sharks and the importance of continued tracking to better understand where these apex predators travel and the habitats they rely on,” OCEARCH emphasized in a Facebook post regarding his recent milestone.

Since being tagged in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, in July 2025, he has traveled more than 6,200 miles.

According to OCEARCH, “The sharks spend summer and fall primarily in coastal waters off New England and Atlantic Canada, feeding on high-calorie prey such as seals, before heading back south to warmer winter waters off the southeast U.S. from South Carolina to the Gulf of Mexico.”
Quint’s journey offers a rare glimpse into the movements of one of the ocean’s most elusive predators.
