A mysterious book excluded from most versions of the Bible is fueling a theory that it describes a prison beneath Antarctica where fallen angels are imprisoned.
Known as the Book of Enoch, the ancient text tells of fallen angels, giants and one of the earliest accounts of the origins of demons, stories that never made it into the biblical canon followed by most Christians. Authorship is traditionally attributed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah.
Although the manuscript survived for centuries in Ethiopia before becoming known to Western scholars in the late 18th century, one of its most unsettling visions has recently resurfaced on social media, where users argue it points to a hidden prison beneath the Antarctic ice.
Supporters of the theory cite passages describing imprisoned heavenly beings awaiting God’s final judgment, along with references to the ‘ends of the earth,’ sealed ‘chambers of cold’ and burning mountains.
They claim the descriptions align with East Antarctica, its network of subglacial lakes and the buried Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains, a vast range concealed beneath up to two miles of ice.
Between 2007 and 2009, an international research team used airborne radar and other geophysical instruments to map the Gamburtsev Mountains, revealing peaks hidden beneath the ice sheet.
While proponents say the similarities are too striking to dismiss, mainstream biblical scholars generally interpret the passages as symbolic descriptions of a supernatural realm rather than a literal location on Earth.

There are 66 books in the modern Bible across the Old and New Testaments, but more than 70 ancient writings circulated among early Jewish and Christian communities that were never accepted into the canon.
One of the most famous is the Book of Enoch, which expands on the mysterious Nephilim, giants mentioned only briefly in the Old Testament.
According to the text, 200 angels known as the Watchers abandoned their duties, took human wives and fathered the Nephilim, violent giants that devoured humanity’s resources while teaching humans forbidden knowledge.
God commands the archangels to bind the Watchers in chains and imprison them in a fiery abyss called Tartarus until the final judgment, while the Nephilim perish in the Flood.
The YouTube video argues these passages have survived virtually unchanged across Ge’ez, Aramaic and Greek manuscripts, claiming their consistency suggests the prison was intended to describe a real place rather than a symbolic vision.
The video points to 1 Enoch 18:12–16, in which Enoch is taken to the ‘end of heaven and earth’ and shown seven imprisoned stars.
The angel Uriel tells Enoch they are heavenly beings who ‘transgressed the commandment of the Lord’ and will remain bound for 10,000 years until the day of judgment, adding that the prison was sealed before the Flood.
Supporters of the Antarctica theory argue the ‘end of heaven and earth’ refers to Earth’s southernmost point, claiming Enoch’s journey leads directly to East Antarctica.
The theory further points to Enoch’s description of seven mountains surrounding the prison, claiming they resemble the buried Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains

They also cite Enoch’s descriptions of sealed ‘chambers of cold’ and storehouses of snow and frost, which they believe correspond to Antarctica’s vast ice sheet and hundreds of subglacial lakes, including Lake Vostok.
The theory further points to Enoch’s description of seven mountains surrounding the prison, claiming they resemble the buried Gamburtsev Subglacial Mountains.
A 2014 study found that despite being 500 million years old, the buried mountains show almost no signs of weathering.
Another passage describing a place with ‘no heaven above,’ ‘no firmly founded earth beneath,’ ‘no water’ and ‘no birds’ is interpreted by supporters as a sealed chamber beneath the Antarctic ice.
The theory also points to what it describes as a fourth clue, claiming Chapter 18 refers to ‘voices’ coming from the abyss, linking the passage to two unexplained radio signals detected by NASA’s Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) experiment in 2006 and 2014 that appeared to emerge from beneath the Antarctic ice.
Scientists have proposed several possible explanations for the anomalous events, including unusual cosmic-ray interactions or other unknown physical processes, but no consensus has been reached.
The video’s creator argues that the unexplained detections, combined with Enoch’s descriptions, amount to four separate ‘markers’ that all converge on the same region of East Antarctica.
However, the Book of Enoch does not explicitly mention Antarctica or radio waves, and mainstream scholars do not interpret the passages as describing a physical location beneath the ice.
