Oliver Stone has spoken out after news of the death of Moritz Borman, the veteran Hollywood producer and longtime Stone collaborator who died July 1 at age 71.

Borman was a producer on the Stone pics Alexander, Savages, W. and World Trade Center and most recently 2016’s Snowden. In addition, he had producer credits on Under the Volcano, The Quiet American, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation, The Crow: Salvation and dozens more.

“Moritz Borman produced and was instrumental in allowing us to make Alexander in 2004,” Stone said. “He produced World Trade Center with Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher, and produced W. in 2008, then Savages in 2012, and Snowden in 2016 with Eric Kopeloff.

“He was both a close friend and a great producer who rarely brought attention to his craftsmanship in all things. He will be greatly missed. He died without telling anyone, I think, and surprised us all. A stoic man to the end. I much loved and admired him.”

Borman died in Munich, where his upcoming film, Netflix’s untitled John Lee Hancock-directed movie about Monsanto, was being shot. Kopeloff and Philip Schulz-Deyle, Borman’s longtime producing partners who were working with Borman the pic, said he died of apparent natural causes.

Stone is underway on his first feature film since Snowden, titled White Lies. Josh Hartnett, Leila George, Michael Douglas, Willem Dafoe, Ellen Barkin, Homer Gere, Yvonne Chapman and Stephanie Suganami lead the cast of the pic, which he also wrote.

White Lies‘ story unfolds across three generations and follows Jack Freeman (Hartnett), a child of divorce now repeating his parents’ mistakes in his own marriage and with his own children. Feeling trapped, he embarks on a lust-filled journey to escape — only to find himself more lost than before. When he meets a woman whose life is the opposite of his own, he begins an unexpected journey on the path of rediscovery.

The screenplay explores family, loss and pain and uncovers how love can change shape during our lifetimes.

Fernando Sulichin is producing White Lies alongside Maximilien Arvelaiz and Jordan Gertner for Sulichin’s New Element Media. Tarak Ben Ammar and Gianluca Leurini of Eagle Pictures are executive producing with James Packer and Jose Luis Manzano.
