A major Australian music festival has left fans ‘crushed’ as organisers announce it won’t be returning this year.

Harvest Rock Festival, held in Adelaide, confirmed on Instagram on Friday that it will be taking a ‘fallow year’.

‘We know this will be disappointing news to many of you, but good things take time, and we’re already working on future plans,’ a spokesperson wrote.

‘We appreciate the ongoing support of the South Australian Government in making the event a huge success to date, and we look forward to partying with you soon.’

Some large-scale, annual events occasionally take ‘fallow years’ to allow the venue’s environment to heal from the impact of hundreds of thousands of attendees.

Fans flocked to the comments to express their devastation over the news.

‘Just fell to my knees at San Churro,’ one person joked.

‘Not to be dramatic but this was the only thing I was looking forward to this year,’ another wrote.

‘Oh this is sad news. Went to my first one last year and was hoping to do the same this year,’ a third commented.

‘This is crushing news given that LCD Soundsystem and The Cure were rumoured to be playing,’ another user said.

Harvest Rock Festival was headlined by New York rockers The Strokes and rapper Jelly Roll last year.

The line-up also included Wolfmother, The War on Drugs, and M.I.A., attracting a record 38,000 revellers to Rymill and King Rodney Parks.

It’s not the first time organisers have decided not to go ahead with the event, which was launched in 2022.

In 2024, the festival was scrapped just months out from the much anticipated event.

The announcement was made on Instagram at the time, revealing the annual festival, which was to be held in Adelaide between October 12 and 13, had been cancelled.

‘We’ve been working hard to make Harvest Rock III another incredible event, however we have made the difficult decision to not hold the festival in 2024,’ the post read.

‘We appreciate the ongoing support of the South Australian Government and we look forward to Harvest Rock in the future.’

Fans, who purchased early tickets to the event in 2023 were automatically refunded through the original point of purchase within 14 days.

Secret Sounds, the promoter of the event, was understood to have been unable to book a headline act for the 2024 event, the Adelaide Advertiser reported.

However, the exact reason for the cancellation was not indicated by either Harvest Rock music festival or Secret Sounds.
