Fans have been left outraged after it was revealed that one of Netflix‘s top TV shows has left the streaming service after 12 years.

Gilmore Girls is now only available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and Hulu as of July 1, 2026.

The coming-of-age series first aired on The WB – which later became The CW – back in 2000 and ran for seven seasons, with the series finale in 2008.

Gilmore Girls follows thirty-something single mom Lorelai Gilmore (played by Lauren Graham) and her relationship with her teenage daughter Rory (played by Alexis Bledel) in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut.

The star-studded cast also included Melissa McCarthy, Milo Ventimiglia, Jared Padalecki, Chad Michael Murray, Adam Brody and Kelly Bishop.

Six years after the series finale, Gilmore Girls found a pop culture resurgence on Netflix as all seven seasons became available to stream on Netflix in 2014.

And now, with the show no longer on the streamer, Gilmore Girls fans are expressing their disappointment – with several calling the move ‘horrible’ and a ‘tragedy.’

One angered Netflix viewer even vowed to ‘cancel’ their subscription after learning they could no longer watch their ‘comfort show’ on the platform.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Netflix for comment but has yet to hear back.

According to Deadline, Gilmore Girls, which consists of 153 episodes, made a yearly showing in the Nielsen streaming charts in the fall and winter months during its 12 years on Netflix.

The outlet reported that in the first week of September 2025, Gilmore Girls garnered an impressive 534 million in viewership across both Netflix and Hulu, with whom Netflix has shared the series with since 2024.

Not only has Gilmore Girls’ over decade-long stint on Netflix attracted viewers who tuned in for the show’s original run on The WB, but it’s also garnered a whole new – and younger – audience.

As per Nielsen ratings data from the week of September 8 to September 14, 2025, it was revealed that a whopping 35% of the show’s viewership came from adults in the 18 to 34 range.

The success of Gilmore Girls on Netflix was felt early on as just one year after it landed on the streamer it was revealed that a sequel series was in the works in 2015.

The revival, titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, saw the return of Graham, Bledel and more original stars, and premiered in 2016 as a four-part mini series.

‘Set nearly a decade after the finale of the original series, this revival follows Lorelai, Rory and Emily Gilmore through four seasons of change,’ the official IMDb synopsis reads.

The special also famously ended with a cliffhanger – with Rory revealing she was pregnant in the last seconds of the limited series, which only ran for one season.

While the original Gilmore Girls series is now gone from Netflix, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is still available exclusively on the platform.

Rumors of a potential second reboot were sparked back in November 2024 after photos posted to social media showed the stars on the set of the beloved series.

Snaps shared to Instagram by fan favorites Scott Patterson, Sean Gunn and Lauren Graham, teased ‘something special’ happening on December 3, 2024, much to the delight of eager viewers.

The series of images included a snap of a cup of coffee at Luke’s Diner, run by charmingly grumpy Luke Danes, played by Patterson.

Gunn, who played Stars Hollow misfit Kirk, posted a photo of the iconic gazebo and the Stars Hollow sign, to his Instagram, writing: ‘Kirk’s 63rd job? Find out on 12/3.’

Graham then also shared a picture of a snowy Stars Hollow street, writing: ‘I’ve got something brewing,’ a wink to her character, Lorelai Gilmore, and her coffee habit.

All of the posts included the hashtag #WalmartPartner, with many fans guessing it was a Walmart commercial.

Their guesses were later confirmed when Walmart announced that Patterson, Gunn and Graham would be starring in a holiday ad for the retailer that year.
