After an individual became stranded on a cliff along Dead Man’s Point in California, first responders completed a complex rescue that took over several hours amid severe weather.
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. – First responders in Oklahoma courageously rescued over a dozen stranded individuals in floodwaters this weekend after persistent wet weather.
On Sunday morning, members of the Tahlequah Fire Department were called to Spring Creek, Oklahoma, where a group of campers became stranded in rising floodwaters.

Located just an hour outside of Oklahoma City, the region received over an inch and a half of rain the day of the rescue.

According to the Tahlequah Fire Department, 15 people were camping in the area when heavy rain and rising floodwaters quickly began to threaten them.

Due to the extent of flooding and the distance from the nearest accessible road, first responders utilized rescue boats to reach the stranded campers and safely extract them.

Images shared by the fire department show firefighters navigating rescue boats upstream to the campsite, where there is normally dry land.
Additional images show what are normally roads, overflowed with floodwaters, creating a waterfall effect as it continues downhill.
Eventually, all individuals were safely transported from the campsite and back to dry land with no injuries.
