After calling out the DHS last year for using her song, Olivia Rodrigo recently reflected on the experience.
The 3x Grammy winner recalled feeling “enraged” at seeing a “deeply disturbing” ICE propaganda video in November that featured her 2023 song ‘All-American Bitch’ without her permission, calling for immigrants to “LEAVE NOW and self-deport.”
“I was just scrolling on my phone,” Rodrigo told Dazed. “It was so deeply disturbing to see that propaganda, and the fact it was my song in there made me feel even more enraged. What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel. I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK.”
Rodrigo previously slammed the DHS and the White House when the video was first posted in November. “Don’t ever use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda,” she commented on the video, which had the audio removed shortly after
A DHS spokesperson quoted the song from her second studio album Guts in a snide response that was shared with TMZ. “America is grateful all the time for our federal law enforcement officers who keep us safe. We suggest Ms. Rodrigo thank them for their service, not belittle their sacrifice,” they said.
In the first year of his second term, Trump has wasted no time targeting undocumented immigrants living in the United States, with the Department of Homeland Security amping up recruitment for ICE agents, who have been deployed in several major US cities, including Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta and more.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has since come under increased fire, following the killings of US citizens Alex Pretti, Renee Good and Keith Porter Jr.
