Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer reiterated a confident message about Democrats’ chances in a key Maine race despite recent controversies surrounding candidate Graham Platner.

Platner, who is running for the Democratic nomination seeking to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins, has faced reports that he sent sexually explicit texts to several women.

“I met with Graham Platner today. We’re going to beat Susan Collins and take back the Senate,” Schumer said Tuesday.

Reporters pushed Schumer about whether he’s standing behind Platner. Schumer originally backed Maine Gov. Janet Mills, who suspended her campaign in April. However, after the latest revelations, Mills said her name is still on the ballot.

“We’re going to beat Susan Collins and take back the Senate,” Schumer repeated.
