WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers arrested a total of six girls for an attack that happened outside of Union Station.
MPD said in a news release that it first learned of several different videos of assaults that were circulating on social media on Feb. 19. Investigators found that one of them happened in the First District.
The video showed several minors walking up to a woman who was walking outside of Union Station, MPD said. They then assaulted her, kicking and punching her.
“One of the suspects recorded the assault and encouraged the other suspects to continue their attack,” MPD said.
They also assaulted others who tried to stop the attack.
Nobody was seriously injured, according to MPD.
On Friday, MPD detectives arrested a 14-year-old girl, a 13-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl for the attack. All four of them were charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and rioting.
On Thursday, police had arrested another 13-year-old girl and 11-year-old girl. Those two were charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to riot, simple assault and disorderly contact.
Police believe that the attack may have been motivated by hate or bias.
