(FOX 5/KUSI) — A 4.6 magnitude earthquake shook Southern California on Friday morning near the Salton Sea.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 10:26 a.m. in the southern part of the lake, near the community of Calipatria, about 140 miles east of San Diego.
The earthquake’s epicenter was at a depth of about five miles.
The area where the quake struck is in a largely rural area of the state. In the first hour, several dozen people had contributed to the USGS’s ‘Did you feel it?’ tool.
Over the last month, there have been several quakes in the southern area of the Salton Sea, and there is a chance that aftershocks could happen after Friday morning’s quake, according to the USGS.
