An investigation is underway into the circumstances behind a fatal shooting in Costa Mesa that occurred late Monday night.
According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, dispatch received a shots-fired call around 11:10 p.m. in the 1500 block of Lukup Lane.
“Officers responded and found a woman on the sidewalk suffering from several apparent gunshot wounds,” Costa Mesa police said in a public alert. “Officers quickly rendered medical aid [and] Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue took over lifesaving measures before they transported the victim to a local hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.”
The victim was initially listed as a 20-year-old woman from Huntington Beach; police later identified her as Monserrat Colorado.
CMPD stated that Colorado and the suspect, who is still outstanding, appear to be known to each other.
No description of the suspect was available, and further details surrounding the investigation were not released.
