A pair of teenagers turned themselves in to police overnight after a deadly stabbing outside of Santa Ana High School on Wednesday, authorities confirmed to KTLA.

The two teens, 15 and 17, are both male students at Santa Ana High. The Santa Ana Police Department told KTLA’s Carlos Herrera that they, joined with their parents, turned themselves in overnight and remain in custody.

Authorities couldn’t yet confirm whether arrests were made.

Officers responded to reports of a stabbing at about 3:25 p.m. A 14-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The boy, a freshman at the school, is yet to be identified officially although friends and classmates described him as “kind and funny.”

A pair of additional victims, aged 15 and 17, were transported in stable condition after being stabbed in the upper torso. They’re expected to make full recoveries.

Police confirmed Thursday that all involved parties, including suspects and victims, were affiliated with gangs.

In a statement posted to social media on Wednesday night, the Santa Ana Unified School District said it would increase police presence at and around Santa Ana High on Thursday.

“We are committed to providing a safe, caring, and supportive environment for all students and staff,” the statement reads in part. “We will continue to share updates as they become available. Thank you for your continued support and compassion.”
