At least one person died early Saturday morning after two were hit by a vehicle on the 101 Freeway outside of Universal Studios Hollywood, according to authorities.
The crash was reported at about 2:36 a.m. just south of the Lankershim Boulevard exit on the 101’s northbound lanes. According to the California Highway Patrol, two pedestrians were in the lanes when a driver behind the wheel of a black Jeep Wrangler hit them.
Authorities pronounced one of the pedestrians dead at the scene. The other was transported to a local hospital to be treated for major injuries. The CHP didn’t say whether the injuries were life-threatening.
The identities of both people were not immediately made available.
The Jeep’s driver remained at the scene to assist emergency personnel, authorities said.
As of Saturday morning, it wasn’t clear where, or why, the two pedestrians were outside of a vehicle on the freeway. The CHP didn’t say whether speed, drugs or alcohol could be a factor, or whether any arrests were made.
The CHP did not immediately indicate fault on either parties. The incident is currently under investigation.
