A three-car crash in Compton claimed two lives on Friday night, according to authorities.

An official with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Compton station confirmed to KTLA that the collision was reported around 9:17 p.m. near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Sportsman drive, just east of a 710 Freeway overpass.

“One party was traveling south on Atlantic and right under the 710 Freeway when they collided with another party,” the spokesperson said. “Party one continued southbound and collided with a third party.”

Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows first responders using tools to free the victims from the wreckage, which was left on a bridge over the Los Angeles River as a result of the crash.

None of the identities of those involved in the crash were immediately released. The cause of the crash is not known.
