An 18-year-old suspect was arrested after a woman was found shot to death in her vehicle in Anaheim.
The suspect was identified as Jerry Gutierrez, 18, of Cudahy, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
On March 4, police responded to a crash on the 700 block of North Vine Street at around 8 p.m. Arriving officers found the victim, Charlene Zuazo, 48, of Anaheim, with a gunshot wound inside her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police had also responded to gunshots heard near Vine and Cypress Streets, about a half-mile from the crash site. Officers found evidence that a shooting had just occurred, but no suspect was found nearby.
Investigators later determined the two incidents were related. It’s believed that after the woman was shot, she continued driving away before crashing into a parked car.
Following an investigation, homicide detectives identified Gutierrez as the suspected gunman.
On March 7, he was located and arrested for murder. The case will be presented to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
No further details, including the motive or whether the suspect and victim were known to each other, were released as the case remains under investigation.
