Two teenagers riding on an e-bike in Brooklyn were hit by a truck Monday afternoon, killing one of the youngsters, police said.
The teens, ages 15 and 16, were riding a bike around 1:50 p.m. when they were hit by a box truck making a right turn from Ditmas Ave. onto Coney Island Ave., according to cops.
Police said the boys were initially riding behind the truck on Ditmas Ave. and moved to its right side just as the truck made a right turn.
EMS transported both boys to Maimonides Hospital, with the 15-year-old passenger in stable condition, police said. The 16-year-old, who was operating the bike, could not be saved, according to police. His identity was not immediately known.
One resident, Bernardo Junicic, who lives nearby to the accident site, said he’s been in the neighborhood 40 years.
“There’s always guys speeding at times to make that right turn. That turn is bad,” he said, adding: “The family has to be devastated. It’s terrible hearing about this.”
The driver of the truck remained on the scene, cops said. There were no arrests as of Monday evening.
