MARYLAND (DC News Now) — Over a dozen Board of Election buildings in Maryland received bomb threats on Friday night, leading to evacuations and sweeps state-wide.
In an update on Monday, State Administrator of Elections Jared DeMarinis said the threat seems to have originated from overseas and that they are working with the FBI and other federal partners to investigate the threats.
A total of 15 local Board of Election sites received a threat, including those in Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Frederick and Washington counties.
DeMarinis said sites received the threats via email at about 7:15 p.m. on Nov. 8. Immediately, the Board of Elections started coordinating with local directors and partners.
By 8 p.m., sites were evacuated.
By Saturday, all sites – regardless of whether they received a threat – had been swept. Nothing was found in those searches, DeMarinis confirmed.
He also said none of the work being done regarding certifying or canvassing after the election was interrupted or disrupted.
Oregon and New York State seemed to have received similar threats.
